For this new chapter of our technical column 'Valente Solutions' we returned to the Veneto region, more precisely 10 km from the centre of Verona, to discover in detail the farm of our customer and friend Riccardo Adami.
Riccardo became our customer in 1997 and in recent years his company has experienced several transformations.
Originally, the 24 hectares of land were a monoculture of nectarines and the plants were uncovered.
Then in 1997 the Sharka hit, Riccardo decided to uproot everything and contacted us to install new, more modern plants equipped with anti-hail systems.
The second step of the company transformation came in 2014, when they started replacing peaches with kiwis, initially one hectare with yellow and one hectare with green ones.
From that time on, every year they continued to replace the peaches with yellow and green kiwis, until today, when there are only two hectares of peaches left.
A choice that openly went against the trend, given that in the Verona area in those years kiwi cultivation was, and still is, in great difficulty.
In 2012, in fact, the kiwi crisis was beginning to be a big problem for growers but Riccardo was confident that if they applied the right agronomic practices they would get good results.
And time has definitely proved him right, just as it has proved that the systems we set up in 1998 are still perfectly functional, even though meanwhile peaches have been replaced by kiwis.
Except for the addition of two posts between the two high poles and the insertion of the arches to support the kiwi plant, in fact, the structure (poles, caps, wires and all the materials) has remained the same as it was 25 years ago, without any further modifications, and according to Riccardo it is still in excellent condition.
Of course, this only applies partially to the nets, which over the past couple of years have been gradually replaced due to the end of their standard life cycle.
A final note, as always, on the reasons why our company was chosen.
To quote Riccardo's words: 'Years later, I can say that in addition to the working relationship, a friendship was also born, we can joke around, we laugh together... going back to 1998, I remember that we met because we were inexperienced regarding anti-hail systems, we didn't know how to do it, we met and it was love at first sight. The material is of the highest quality, the assembly is always perfect everything is always fine, and if by any chance there was something to fix you were always there, so more transparency than that...’.
Thank you to Riccardo for the kind words, for taking the time and for choosing us. We are proud to have been your partner for so many years and hope to continue to see your company grow and become more and more successful in the coming years.
